RESOLUTION NO: 6588-91 <br /> <br />BY: <br /> <br />Gallagher, George, Graham, <br /> Roth, Smith <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION urging the United States Congress to continue <br />operation of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program at <br />present or higher levels of assistance. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, during the last winter 1,047 households in Lakewood <br />received $188,000 in assistance under the Low Income Home Energy <br />Assistance Program; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in addition to those 1,087 households, many more <br />received emergency assistance; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, many of those receiving assistance are senior <br />citizens and single parent households on fixed incomes; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, if this assistance were withdrawn or diminished many <br />of our citizens would be severely impacted and would have to cut <br />back on basic needs such as food and necessary medical care; now, <br />therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That this Council hereby declares its support of <br />the continuation of the Low Income Home Energy Program at present <br />or higher levels and requests the United States Senate and House of <br />Representatives to continue this program at present or higher <br />levels of assistance. <br /> <br /> Section 8. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby <br />authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this <br />Resolution to Senator Howard Metzenbaum, Senator John Glenn and the <br />Secretary of the United States Senate, Congressman Edward Feighan, <br />Congresswoman Mary Rose Oakar and the Secretary of the United <br />States House of Representatives. <br /> <br /> Section 3.
