6588-91 Urge continuation of Home Energy Assistance

RESOLUTION NO: 6588-91 BY: Gallagher, George, Graham, Roth, Smith A RESOLUTION urging the United States Congress to continue operation of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program at present or higher levels of assistance. WHEREAS, during the last winter 1,047 households in Lakewood received $188,000 in assistance under the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program; and, WHEREAS, in addition to those 1,087 households, many more received emergency assistance; and, WHEREAS, many of those receiving assistance are senior citizens and single parent households on fixed incomes; and, WHEREAS, if this assistance were withdrawn or diminished many of our citizens would be severely impacted and would have to cut back on basic needs such as food and necessary medical care; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: Section 1. That this Council hereby declares its support of the continuation of the Low Income Home Energy Program at present or higher levels and requests the United States Senate and House of Representatives to continue this program at present or higher levels of assistance. Section 8. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to Senator Howard Metzenbaum, Senator John Glenn and the Secretary of the United States Senate, Congressman Edward Feighan, Congresswoman Mary Rose Oakar and the Secretary of the United States House of Representatives. Section 3. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning and relating to the passage of this resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council and that ail such deliberations of this Council and of any of its committees that resulted in such formal action were in meetings open to the public in compliance with all legal Adopt ed: Approved: ~ ~_7~-lf_q / Clerk
