RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />6605-91 <br /> <br /> BY: Boscia, Gallaghe <br />Gazzana, George, Graham, Roth, <br /> Smith <br /> <br /> A Resolution urging <br />Against Women Act of 1991. <br /> <br />the adoption of the Violence <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Senator Joseph Biden has introduced Senate <br />Bill 15, the Violence Against Women Act of 1991, which is perhaps <br />the most significant legislation ever introduced concerning <br />victims of sexual and domestic violence; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, domestic violence is a crime which touches all~ <br />segments of our society and threatens the very fabric of our <br />nation and our city; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Violence Against Women Act of 1991 will <br />increase funding for victims of domestic violence and contribute <br />to efforts to put an end to the epidemic of domestic violence <br />through funding and public awareness; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, indications of support of such legislation are <br />extremely important in assisting legislators in making decisions <br />on priorities for funding; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council believe that the time <br />has come to bring attention to the tragedy of domestic violence <br />and move forward in finding solutions; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That this Council and the Mayor urge the <br />Congress of the United States to adopt the Violence Against Women <br />Act of 1991 as introduced by Senator Biden and further urge the <br />President of the United States sign such legislation when <br />presented.to him. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be' and she is <br />hereby authorized and directed to forward certified copies of <br />this resolution to Senator John Glenn, Senator Howard Metzenbaum <br />and the Clerk of the United States Senate, Senate Office <br />Building, Washington, D.C. 20510, Representative Mary Rose Oakar, <br />Representative Edward Feighan and the Clerk of the United States <br />House of Representatives, House Office Building, Washington, D.C. <br />20515, and President George Bush, White House, Washington, D.C., <br />20500 and that a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the <br />minutes of this meeting. -'F'-~x~~ <br /> <br />Approved:~ // <br /> <br />CLERK <br /> <br /> <br />
