RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />6607-91 BY: <br /> <br />Boscia, Gallagher, Gazzana, <br />George, Graham, Roth, Smith <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION protesting the unreasonable water rate <br />increase and requesting that Cleveland City Council reconsider <br />the distribution between suburban and Cleveland water users. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Cleveland City Council has enacted a water <br />rate increase which has a direct affect upon all suburban water <br />users; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the charges to suburban water users exceeds <br />100% of the charge to Cleveland water users; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the net scheduled increase in water rates <br />exceeds 50% of the present water rates paid by suburban water <br />users; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Cleveland had been requested, <br />prior to enacting the water rate increase, to more equitably <br />distribute the costs for the operation of the Cleveland Water <br />Department; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, undermaintained and aging water lines in the <br />suburban area have caused suburbanites to expend large sums of <br />money and time to repair their streets affected by water line <br />breaks; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council and the Mayor strongly protest the <br />difference in rate application and strongly urge the City of <br />Cleveland to reconsider the water rates in a more equitable and <br />fair manner for all suburban users; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. The Council and the Mayor of the City of <br />Lakewood do hereby strongly protest the unequal water rate <br />increase imposed by the Council of the City of Cleveland and <br />strongly urge the City of Cleveland to reconsider the inequitable <br />and unfair charges to suburban water users and to enact a more <br />equitable water rate charge in line with the Cleveland water <br />users. <br /> <br />Adopted:~ /~//q~/ <br /> <br /> Section 2. The Clerk of Council is hereby authorized <br />and directed to forward certified copies of this legislation to <br />Michael R. White, Mayor of the City of Cleveland, Michael G. <br />Konicek, Director of the Department of Pub~es, Julius <br />Ciaccia, Jr., Commissioner, Di~n of W~ter[~f th'~ City of <br />Cleveland, and to the Clerk o '~nd City <br />Council. <br /> <br />CLERK <br /> <br />MAYOR <br /> <br /> <br />
