RESOLUTION NO. 6767-92 BY: Gallagher, George, Gibbons, Roth, Seelie, Smith A RESOLUTION proclaiming October as National Disability Employment Awareness MOnth; WHEREAS, on September 23, 1992, President George Bush proclaimed October as National Disability Employment Awareness month calling on all Americans to observe the month with appropriate programs and activities that affirm our determination to fulfill both the letter and spirit of the 1990 American with Disabilities Act; and WHEREAS, it has been estimated, and some say conservatively, that there are 43 million Americans with disabilities in the Unites States, with more than one million of them residing in Ohio; and WHEREAS, one-third of all Americans with Disabilities who are of working age are currently employed; the other two-thirds constitute a vast untapped source of knowledge, skill and talent; and WHEREAS, such a waste of human ability stands in stark contrast to the American traditions of individual dignity, self-reliance and empowerment through opportunity and hard work; and WHEREAS, to employ these determined candidates is to make a wise investment in our nations future; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: Section 1. That this Council and the Mayor, hereby join President George Bush in proclaiming October 1992 as National Disability Employment Awareness Month in the City of Lakewo°d and urge all City employers to recognize the value of the disabled worker. Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to Lakewood Works for Disabled Too, c/o Kathy Kaperick, 14567 Madison 9501, Lakewood, OH 44107, and that a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the minutes of the meeting.
