RESOLUTION NO. 6801-93 <br /> <br />BY: Gallagher, George, Gibbons, <br /> Roth, Seelie, Smith <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION to create a Lakewood Landmark Commission to <br />advise the ~City regarding the preservation of historical sites and <br />structures and to promote historic preservation. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, various individuals and groups in the City of <br />Lakewood have expressed an .interest in the creation of a Lakewood <br />Landmark Commission to serve in an advisory capacity to educate and <br />assist residents, various businesses, boards and commissions, 'City <br />departments and officials of the City of Lakewood regarding the <br />promotion, use and preservation of historical sites and structures <br />and to assist and coordinate efforts in the promotion of historical <br />preservation, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, after numerous meeting and hearings of the Rules <br />and Ordinances Committee of Council, it is .generally agreed that an <br />ordinance with strict requirements, standards and procedures would be <br />costly to administer and might unreasonably infringe on private <br />property rights, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, historical preservation is vital to the City of <br />Lakewood's neighborhoods, heritage, property values and its national- <br />ly recognized image; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That the Lakewood Landmark Commission. be is <br />hereby established to serve in an advisory capacity for the purpose <br />of informing City officials and making recommendations relating to <br />historical preservation, including, but not limited to the following: <br /> <br />Benefits and costs of official promotion of 'historical preserva- <br />tion in the City; <br /> <br />Summary and analysis of current efforts to promote, protect and <br />enhance historical preservation by private and public entities; <br />and <br /> <br />Desirability and role of permanent local legislation and/or <br />board or commission to promote, Protect and assist in histori- <br />cal preservation in the City. <br /> <br /> Section 2. The Lakewood Landmark Commission shall, be com- <br />posed of seven (7) electors of the City to be appointed in the manner <br />hereinafter set forth: (a) two appointments shall be by the Mayor; <br />(b) two appointments shall be by City Council; (c) two appointments <br />shall be by the Lakewood Historical Society; and (d) one appointment <br />shall be by the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce. <br /> <br /> Section 3. That this Commission shall be authorized to <br />adopt its own rules and regulations which shall be consistent with <br />the ordinances, Amended Charter of the City of Lakewood and the laws <br />of the State of Ohio. <br /> <br /> Section 4. The Building Commissioner and his staff shall <br />provide administrative and support services to the Commission. <br /> <br /> Section 5.
