RESOLUTION NO. 6886-93 BY: Bos~a, Gallagher, George, Gibbons, Roth, Seelie, SmLth A RESOLUTION extending congratulations to Amanda Muliolis, Math Chairwoman of St. Augustine Academy, on her work this summer training teachers in Lithuania for democratic schooling, as a member of the American Professional Partnership for Lithuanian Education (APPLE). WHEREAS, Amanda Muliolis, who arrived in the United States in 1944 from Lithuania, and her husband Algirdas Muliolis, an artist with American Greetings, returned to Lithuania at their own expense, to participate in the American Professional Partnership for Lithuanian Education (APPLE) program, and WHEREAS, Mrs. Muliolis, as a teacher and Math Chairwoman of St. Augustine Academy has taught and participated in workshops for Math and Science enabling her to enrich her St. Augustine ACademy students' knowledge in these fields and encourage their interest, and has received awards for her efforts, and WHEREAS, APPLE was organized soon after the liberation of Lithuania by a group of American teachers, many of Lithuanian descent, to assist Lithuanian teachers in reconstituting their educational process, and WHEREAS, as a member of APPLE, Amanda assisted Lithuanian teachers in the process of replacing their totalitarian method of schooling with a democratic process that encourages student teacher interaction, and WHEREAS, Amanda Muliolis gave of her time and resources in her effort to provide assistance to educators in Lithuania's fledgling democracy and on her return to the United States has enriched the lives of her students at St. Augustine Academy by relating her experiences, and WHEREAS, Amanda Muliolis has used her exceptional talent and experience to assist others in.achieving their goals and realizing their dreams of democratic schooling, bringing honor and recognition not only to herself and the American Professional Partnership for Lithuanian Education but to St. Augustine Academy and our entire community; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO Section 1. That this Council and the Mayor hereby extend to Amanda Muliolis praise and congratulations for her contribution to Lithuanian's Schools and the American Professional Partnership for Lithuanian Education and the enrichment of the students, of St. Augustine Academy. Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to Amanda Muliolis, c/o St. Augustine Academy, 14808 Lake Avenue, Lakewood, Ohio 44107 and that a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the minutes of the meeting.
