<br /> A RESOLUTION to commend the 1993 Lakewood High School
<br /> for being Down Beat magazine's 1993 "Winner" of its
<br />Achievement award in the High School Vocal Jazz Choir
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, 1993 marks the 6th year of the past 8 years
<br />that the LHS Roadshow has been recognized in Down Beat's annual
<br />Student Achievement Awards issue as one of the top two high
<br />school jazz choirs in the U.S. and Canada, and the 5th of the
<br />past 8 that it has been recognized as the best; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, 1993 LHS graduate Tim Brent was individually
<br />recognized as the top winner in the "Outstanding Male Solo
<br />Performance--High School" category; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the Roadshow has
<br />successes under the leadership and
<br />Director Gerald A.' Wondrak; and
<br />
<br /> achieved
<br />guidance
<br />
<br /> its consistent
<br />of creator and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the members of the 1993 Roadshow were Amy
<br />Bednarski, Tim Brent, Matt Charboneau, Amanda Cobes, Stefan
<br />Drotleff, Jennie Griveas, Fidelle Helbling, Michael Helbling,
<br />Sarah Hetbling, Keith Kelley, Theresa Kovatch, Nikki Lauria,
<br />Tammy Lewallen, Dave Malloy, Christine Montgomery, Chris Rigby,
<br />Jason Rigby, Dave Schreiner, Christa Sinkewich, Dean Stamatis,
<br />and Ben Wright; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, for the past fifteen years, the Roadshow has
<br />been a superlative example of excellence in our schools and
<br />innovation in teaching and learning, and has become the most
<br />consistent'ly recognized group in the nation for being outstanding
<br />in its particular field; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the Roadshow experience not only exposes
<br />students to the joys of singing jazz and learning its history,
<br />but also demands standards of musical excellence, personal
<br />responsibility, and group cooperation and dedication whose
<br />lessons endure well beyond the high school years; and
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, the 1993 Lakewood High School Roadshow,
<br />through their dedication, industry, and exuberant passion for
<br />their craft, have brought honor and distinction not only to
<br />themselves, but to the Lakewood Schools and to the entire
<br />community; now, therefore,
<br />
<br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO:
<br />
<br /> Section 1.. That this CoUncil and the Mayor hereby
<br />extend to Director Gerald A. Wondrak and the 1993 Lakewood High
<br />School Roadshow its commendation, and that of all the citizens of
<br />the Lakewood Community on receiving Down Beat magazine's 1993
<br />"Overall Winner" award in the High School Vocal Jazz category.
<br />
<br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is
<br />hereby authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of
<br />this Resolution to Gerald A. Wondrak, Lakewood High School, 14100
<br />Franklin Boulevard, Lakewood, OH 44107, and that a copy of this
<br />Resolution be spread upon the minutes of the meeting.
