RESOLUTION NO. 7057-95 BY: Boscia, Flanner¥, George, <br /> Gibbons, Roth, Seelie, Smith <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION to commend Lakewood High School 1995 <br />graduating senior. David J. Dewees on achieving the status of <br />National Merit Scholarship Finalist. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation <br />of Evanston, Illinois, sponsors the extremely rigorous and <br />limited award annual Merit Scholarship competition; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, from more than one mi~Iion students who <br />entered the 1995 Merit Program, only about 15,000 were named <br />semifinalists designated on a state representational basis, in <br />proportion to each state's total of high school graduating <br />seniors and all five LHS semi-finalists rose to Finalist status; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, David J. Dewees is one of five distinguished <br />Finalists from Lakewood High School out of 14,000 National <br />Finalists from more than one million students who took the 1993 <br />PSAT/NMSQT and recorded to present tl~eir academic, biographical, <br />and extracurricular achievements and goals; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, at Lakewood High School David J. Dewees is a <br />member of the Celebration of Excellence, H20 for which he spent ' <br />twenty volunteer hours at the Cleveland Food Bank and the dinner <br />distribution programs at Calvary and St. Patrick's churches, the <br />Pioneer Festival and the National Honor Society; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, David Dewees has summarized his interests <br />in the written portion of his entry on the topic of architecture <br />and how self esteem influences a neighborhood; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, David's goals of attending' Ohio State <br />University in its pre-Architecture program with plans to fulfill <br />the courses in its School of Architecture will be actualized in <br />the fall and embellished with scholarships from Ferro <br />Corporation, the National Merit Scholarship, and Ohio State <br />University's scholarship in Architecture; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it i's most appropriate that the scholastic <br />achievements of David J. Dewees be given public cognizance and <br />recognition. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF <br />OHIO: · <br /> <br /> 1. That on behalf of the residents of the City of <br />Lakewood, the Council and the Mayor hereby extend to David Jo <br />Dewees their heartiest congratulations and commendation on <br />achieving the status of National Merit Scholarship Finalist. <br /> <br /> 2. That the Clerk of Council be and is hereby <br />authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this <br />Resolution to David J.
