RESOLUTION 7126-96 BY: Boscia, Corrigan, Flannery, <br /> George, Roth, Seelie, Smith <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION to commend Lakewood High School 1996 <br />graduating senior Jeffrey J. Kovacs on achieving the status of National Merit <br />Scholarship Finalist. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation of <br />Evanston, Illinois, sponsors the extremely rigorous and limited award annual <br />Merit Scholarship competition; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in mid-September, 1995, some 15,000 students, the <br />highest-scoring eligible participants in each of the 50 states, were selected, of <br />which 14,000 Semifinalists (716 qualified from Ohio) advanced to Finalist status <br />to be considered for Merit Scholarships; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, after fulfilling the rigors of Semifinalist requirements a <br />Finalist must meet very high academic standards in college preparatory course <br />work, submitting SAT I: Reasoning Test scores that confirm the earlier <br />PSAT/NMSQT performance, and be fully endorsed and recommended by the <br />high school principal earning consideration for a "National" scholarship; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS,. during his years at Lakewood High School Jeffrey J. <br />Kovacs was captain of the winning 1994 Academic Challenge television <br />competition, Co-president of Model United Nations debate group, representative <br />to Student Council Wafters Science Seminar participant, National Honors <br />Society member, member of French and Latin clubs, Science Olympiad; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Jeffrey J. Kovac's extracurricular activities include <br />membership of the Ultimate Frisbee Club, Ski Club and volunteering at the H20 <br />(Help to Others) program; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is most appropriate that the scholastic achievements <br />of Jeffrey J. Kovacs be given public.cognizance and recognition; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE 1T RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF <br /> <br />OHIO: <br /> <br /> 1. That on behalf of the resident of the City of Lakewood, the <br />Council. and the Mayor hereby extend to teffrey J. Kovacs their heartiest <br />congratulations and commendation on achieving the status of National Merit <br />Scholarship Finalist. <br /> <br /> 2. That the Clerk of Council be and is hereby authorized and <br />directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to Jeffrey J.
