RESOLUTION NO. 7127-96 BY: Boscia, Corrigan, Flannery, <br /> George, Roth, Seelie, Smith <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION to commend Lakewood High School 1996 <br />graduating senior Robert J. Armaline on achieving the status of National Merit <br />Scholarship Finalist. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation of <br />Evanston, Illinois sponsors the extremely rigorous and limited award annual <br />Merit Scholarship competition; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in mid-September, 1995, some 15,000 students, the <br />highest-scoring eligible particpants in each of the 50 states were selected, of <br />which 14,000 Semifinalist (716 qualified from Ohio) advanced to Finalist status <br />to be considered for Merit Scholarships; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, after fulfilling the rigors of Semifinalist requirements a <br />Finalist must meet very high academic standards in college preparatory course <br />work, submitting SAT I: Reasoning Test scores that confirm the earlier <br />PSAT/NMSQT performance, and being fully endorsed and recommended by <br />the high school principal the Finalists will be considered for one of the <br />"National" scholarships; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, at Lakewood High School Robert Armatine's <br />accomplishments and memberships include first chair trombone for LHS Jazz <br />Band, Co-President of Model United Nations debate group, Academic <br />Challenge team member, Watters Science Seminar participant, National Honor <br />Society member, Spanish Honor Society member, Science Olympiad, LHS <br />Science Fair alternate, University For Young Americans participant;, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Robert J. Armaline's extracurricular activities include <br />playing in Lakewood Recreation League sports,, participating in the Earth Day <br />Coalition, and performing in the pit orchestra in the school's production of <br />"Barnum"; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is most appropriate that the scholastic achievements <br />of Robert James Armaline be given public cognizance and recognition; now, <br />therefore, <br /> <br />OHIO: <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF <br /> <br /> 1.. That on behalf of the residents of the Ci,ty of Lakewood, the <br />Council and the Mayor hereby extend to Robert James Armaline their heartiest <br />congratulations and commendation on achieving the status of National Merit <br />Scholarship Finalist. <br /> <br /> 2.
