RESOLUTION NO. 7148-96 BY: Corrigan, Flannery, George, Roth, Seelie, Smith A RESOLUTION requesting that the Ohio Department of Transportation (O.D.O.T.) Director of Transportation establish a 80 mph (miles per hour) restriction on Interstate Route 90 within the municipal boundaries of the City of Lakewood. WHEREAS, new legislation regarding Ohio's speed limit law became effective on February 19, 1996, and WHEREAS, Substitute House Bill 565 gives local officials and O.D.O.T. one hundred twenty {12D) days to conduct appropriate geometric and traffic characteristic studies to evaluate existing freeway speed limits, and WHEREAS, since Ohio is a home rule state, the appropriate studies must be conducted by local officials within incorporated communities, and WHEREAS, O.D.O.T. will use these studies to determine the safe and reasonable speed limit on our freeways, and WHEREAS, the City of Lakewood has conducted an appropriate geometric and traffic characteristic study to'evaluate the existing freeway speed limit which is 55 mph, and WHEREAS, the City's Traffic Engineer recommends that a 60 mph speed limit would be appropriate on Interstate Route 90 within the municipal boundaries of the City of Lakewood which is the designed speed for that specific piece of interstate, and WHEREAS, both the City of Cleveland and City of Rocky River have stated their preference that a 60 mph speed limit would be appropriate on Interstate Route 90 within the municipal boundaries of Cleveland and Rocky River respectively; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO Section 1. That this Council and the Mayor hereby request that the Ohio Department of Transportation {O.D.O.T.} Director of Transportation establish a 80 mph {miles per hour) restriction on Interstate Route 90 within the municipal boundaries of the City of Lakewood. Section 2. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning and relating to the passage of this resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council, and that all such deliberations of this Council and any of its committees that resulted in such formal action, were in meetings open to the public, in compliance with all legal requirements.
