Ill f-97 BY: Bo,se,ia, Coaad~a.n., <br /> 6eoage, Rot_fa, <br /> <br /> A RESoLUTIoN opposing Senate Bill 19 designating the State of <br />Ohio as the first Iow-level radioactive waste dumping site for six midwestern <br />states. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, on June 9, 1995, Governor George Voinovich signed <br />Senate Bill 19 which .deSignates the State of Ohio as the first low-level <br />radioactive waste dumping site for six midwestem states, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the "low-level" radioaCtive wastes that will be put into <br />this dump are highly toxic and long-lived radioaCtive materials, including all <br />wastes from nuclear power plants except the "high-level" radioactive fuel rods, <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, there is no safe technology for disposal of "low-level" <br />radioactive waste, and the taxpayers in the State of Ohio will take permanent <br />title to and environmental and economic liabili ,ty for a dump that is damaging <br />the environment and jeopardizing the health and welfare of the citizens of the <br />State of Ohio; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE 1T RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF <br /> <br />OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That the Mayor and Council do hereby oppose the State <br />of Ohio being selected as the receiver of such hazardous radioactive nuclear <br />waste from six midwestern states. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and is hereby authorized <br />and direc~i to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to Governor George <br />V. Voinovich, Senators John Glenn and Mike DeWine, Congressman Dennis <br />Kucinich, State Senator Patrick Sweeney, State Representative Dan Brady and <br />Mr. Arnold Gliesser, 5005 S. Barton Road, Lyndhurst, Ohio 44124 and that a <br />copy of this Resolution be spread upon the minutes of this meeting. <br /> <br />PRESIDENT <br /> <br />CLERK <br /> <br /> <br />
