RESOLUTI~.~NO. 7288-98 BY: Corrigan, Fl~.mer¥, George, <br /> Roth, Seelie, Skinde11, Smith <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION honoring the memory of Dr. David E. Lehtinen for his <br />commitment to professional excellence and civic achievement. <br /> WHEREAS, Dr. Lehtinen was a leading trauma expert who served as the chief of <br />neurosurgery for three area hospitals, having served Lakewood Hospital in that capacity <br />since 1983; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Dr. Lehtinen, a strong proponent of education and research, was a <br />member of the board of directors for the Academy of Medicine of Cleveland, and served <br />on the faculty of the American College of Surgeons and as an assistant clinical professor <br />in neurosurgery at Case Western Reserve University; and <br /> WHEREAS, Dr. Lehtinen, a resident of Lakewood, generously contributed his <br /> time and talents to the community as the volunteer medical director for Cleveland's <br /> Emergency Medical Service; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, his efforts are credited for vastly improving the Emergency Medical <br /> Service, including upgraded education and testing requirements for technicians, revised <br /> treatment procedures, and better quality control and coordination of trauma care; and <br /> WHEREAS, Dr. Lehtinen further contributed to his community by assisting City <br /> Council in writing Lakewood's helmet law to protect children from head trauma, serving <br /> as an advisor to the U.S. Coast Guard, as well as co-director of the Cold Water Drowning <br /> and Hypothermia Conference in the Great Lakes region; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD: <br /> Section 1. That the Mayor and Council of the City of Lakewood honor the <br /> memory of Dr. David E. Lehtinen for his medical expertise, commitment to patient care, <br /> and civic achievemnets; and extend deepest sympathies to his wife, Patricia, and children, <br /> David, Jeffrey and Kathryn. <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of council be and is hereby authorized and dire&ed <br /> to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to Patricia Lehtinen, and that a copy of this <br /> Resolution be spread upon the minutes of this meeting. <br /> <br />Adopted~ o~d, / ~ff' <br /> <br />President <br /> <br />Approved:~ ~'lI <br /> <br />Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
