George, <br /> Rot:h, Seelie, Skindell, Smith <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION urging Ohio state legislators to design a funding program that <br />will provide adequate funding to mee~ the costs of educating all Ohio's children. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Ohio Legislators are working to develop a new funding system for <br />public schools as ordered by the Ohio Supreme Court, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, should this new fundi,nag system require additional taxes and voter <br />approval, the plan must be developed by February 4 , and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, our Lakewood School System is renowned for the quality of its <br />programming, which contributes to, the v~ry time reputation of the City of Lakewood as a <br />superior place to live and work, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the residents of Lakewood have voted to support the school system <br />at great sacrifice to their personal financial situations, while other dis~cts have not received <br />such support from their residents for education of their ch/Idren, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, there is concern that a quick and easy "Robin Hood" solution might <br />be m lake resources from achieving districts like Lakewocd and give to poorer school districts; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, there is cone, em that an increase in the State's sales tax by one half <br />c~m would be regressive and carry the greatest impact on the poor and cany no great benefit to <br />the school system and the cifizems of Lakewood; now, therefore <br /> <br />BE 1T RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> section 1. That we urge Ohio state legislators to design a funding program that <br />will provide adequate funding to mec~ the eoas of educating all Ohio's children, that will <br />provide funding for current and fuvar~ educational mandates of the state legislature, and that will <br />reco~., i=e and reward communities sucia as Lakewood for making extraordinary local tax efforts <br />m provide good schools for their students. <br /> <br /> Section 1. (a.) We do not supPOrt a sales tax and tuge greater relief for <br />homeowners' property rexes. <br /> <br /> Section 2.
