RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />7309-98 BY: Corrigan, Flanner¥, George, Roth, <br /> Seelie, Skindell, Smith <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION requesting Lakewood residents to Vote NO on Issue 2, the <br />state sales tax increase, on Primary Election Day, May 5, 1998. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, residems of the City of Lakewood and throughout the State of Ohio <br />will be asked to consider a plan to increase the state sales tax by 1 cent (Issue 2) in the name of <br />education; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, residems in the Lakewood School District have been dedicated to <br />providing a very high standard of education for their children by supporting necessary operating <br />levies; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in recent years the Lakewood School District has embarked <br />aggressive financial management whereby expenditure increases have been capped; <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, aa increase in the state sales tax by 1 cent (ISSUe 2) will not provide <br />any additional funding to Lakewood Schools and will not provide suffic/ent funding to support a <br />basic educational program; <br /> <br /> WHERE., Issue 2 places an unfair burden on chizens who can leas~ afford it <br />tach as seniors on fixed incomes and low income households; <br /> <br /> WHHREAS, passage of Issue 2 would still leave school districts in a situation <br />where they would have to ask for property levies in the foreseeable future; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Seedon 1. Tha~ Lakewood City Coundl reque~ the residents of Lakewood m <br />Vote NO on Issue 2, a one cent sales tax increase. <br /> <br /> Seotion 2. That it is found and determined that ail formal actions of this Council <br />concerning and relating to the passage of this resoiut/on were adopted in an open meetin~ of this <br />Coundl, and that ail deb'berations of this Council and of any of its co~ees t_h~ resulted in <br />such formal action, were in meetinss open to the public, in compliance with all legal requirements. <br /> <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL <br /> <br /> <br />
