RESOLUTION NO. 7316-98 BY: Corrigan, Flannery, oeorge, <br /> Roth, Seelie, Skindell <br /> <br /> A RF_.SOL~ON urging First Energy to institute a maintenance program <br />to encompass safety and up-k0eep issues surrounding First Energy's aging electrical <br />system. <br /> <br /> WI-IEREAS, it is in the best intnrest of the citizens of Lakewood to compel <br />First Energy to examine drooping and downed wires, wire locations requiring tree <br />trimming, response time to emergencies and overall system analysis on a regular basis <br />in a rigorous manner, and <br /> <br /> Wt-IE~, First Energy must re-evaluatn the wisdom of a recent move <br />to lav off over 500 workers totaling a decline of nearly 1,600 employees over the last 10 <br />years, and <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, four fatalities have occurred since 1995 due to downed wires, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, massive layoffs cause harm to working families and a <br />community in a myriad of ways; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE C1TY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1; That the Council of the City of Lakewood for and on behalf of <br />the citizens of the City of Lakewood strongly urge First Energy to implement a <br />maininnance program to ensure the safety of our residents and improve the quality of <br />service to our citizens. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and is hereby authorized and <br />directed to forward a certified copy of this resolution to the Utility Workers local 270 <br />and to the President and CEO of First Energy, and the Board of Directors of First <br />Energy. <br /> <br /> Section 3. That it is found and det~tudned that all formal actions of this <br />Council concerning and relating to the adoption of this Resolution were adopt~t in an <br />open meeting of this Council and that all deliberations of this Council and of any of its <br />commi~ that resulind in such formal action were in meetings open to the public in <br />compliance with all legal requirements. <br /> <br />Approve~o~l <br /> <br /> <br />
