REBOLUTIONNO. 7396-99 BY: Corrigan, FitzGerald, George, <br /> Roth, Seelie, Skindell, Smith <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION of suppod for issue 6 - the Lakewood Ci~y 8oho01s 4 9 mill levy <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the quality of the future of our City of Lakewcod and our Lakewood <br />community and the quality of our Lakewood Public Schools are eo closely intedw]ned; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, future Lakewood property values are linked to the qualily of our public <br />schools; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, our Lakewood Schools are accountable in that per pupil spending is the <br />6th lowest of the 3! public school districts in the 6ounty; $5 million has been cut from the budget; 75 <br />teaching positidns have been eliminated; teaoher pay is the 4th lowest of the 31 public school <br />districts in the county; and $500,000 annually has been reduced through the 6]imination of <br />administrative positions; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Money magazine has identified our Lakewood Schools as one of the top <br />100 educational values nationwide; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, State Auditor James Petrol has complimented Lakewood Schools on its <br />cost cutting efforts; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, our Lakewood Board of Education has placed an operating levy on the <br />May 4th ballot to raise the necessary funds to provide our Lakewood children with up-to-date <br />textbooks, curriculum and technology; enough math and science classes to meet new state <br />graduation requirements; more teachers to reduce class sizes for instruction and discipline; and <br />safe, secure buildings for ieaming; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the 4,9 mills requested by our schools is the minimum amount needed <br />to fund our educational plan and is the least millage reqbested in the last twenty years; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, our ~chools make this levy request with a commitment for continued <br />tight budgets and recognizing coming increases in state funding; now, therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CiTY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO' <br /> <br /> Section I That the City Council of the City of Lakewood hereby expresses its <br />suppont for issue 6; The Lakewood City Schools Operating Levy on the May 4th ballot, <br /> <br /> Sectioa 2. That the City Council of the City of Lakewood hereby encourages the <br />voters or Lakewood to vote yes on Issue 6 <br /> <br /> Section 3. That Lakewood City Council hereby instructs the Clerk of Council to <br />submit fodhwith this resolution to the Lakewood Sun Post and the Cleveland Plain Dealer. <br /> <br /> Section 4. That it is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council <br />concerning and relating to the passage of this resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this <br />Council and that all such deliberafions of this Council and of any of its committees that resulted in <br />such formal action were ia meetings open to the public in compliance with all legal requirements <br /> <br />Approved:/ / I <br /> <br /> <br />
