<br /> A RESOLUTION to recognize longtime Lakewood resident and Lakewoed High School
<br />graduate Jane Scott for her charm, wit and delightful enthusiasm m reporting rock 'n' roll music
<br />since September 15, 1964--the day the Beafles played Public Hall in Cleveland on their first
<br />concert tour of the United States--and to celebrate her 80~ birthday, making her the oldest
<br />working rock journalist.
<br />
<br /> WHEREAS, Jane Scott has worked at the Plain Dealer for 47 years, the last 35 years
<br />reporting on reck 'n' roll, having watched artists like the Who, Bruce Springsteen and Leu Reed
<br />grow up; and
<br /> WHEREAS, lane Scott was bom in Cleveland, raised in Lakewood and Russell
<br />Township, a gxaduate of Lakewood High School in 193'/ and a recent inductee into the
<br />Distinguished Alunmi Hall of Fame, she earned a teaching certificate from University of
<br />Michigan and attended the Wilcox College of Commerce where she learned the important
<br />journalistic tools of typing and shorthand; and
<br /> WHEREAS, on March 24, 1952, three days after Alan Freed's legendary overcrowded
<br />rhythm-and-blues dance part~, the Moondog Coronation Ball, Jane Scott joined the Plain Dealer
<br />to edit the society section and later moved on to handle columns on the elderly and young
<br />children, a double beat nicknamed '}imples to pensions"; and
<br /> WHEREAS, Jane Scott's first rock 'n' roll interview was a~ the old Cleveland Hotel on
<br /> September 15, 1964 with the Beatles, an event recalled years later by Paul McCarmey who
<br /> remembered Jane ScolI as one of the only middle-age women he me~ on that tour, and
<br /> WHEREAS, Jane Scott has reported on the stars of rock 'n' roll throughout her career
<br /> and include Elvis, the Beatles, Brace Springsteen, U2, Lyle LoveiI, lanis Joplin, Leu Reed,
<br /> Chuck Ben% Fleetwood Mac and David Bowie; and
<br /> WHEREAS, bands go in and out of style, we hope that lane ScotI will bo there for years
<br /> to come to report on them with a smile, having missed the flrs~ Woodstock festival in 1969, she
<br /> attended the 25e~ annlversay show in 1994 at age 75 and plans to cover the 50~ anniversary show
<br /> in 2019, the year in which she will be 100 years young; now, therefore,
<br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO:
<br /> Section 1. That this Council and Mayor, hereby recc?ize and congratulate our own
<br /> Lakewood Matriarch of Rock, Jane ScaR, for decades of outstanding professional journalism and
<br /> to celebrate her $0i birthday, with wishes of many more years of fabulous fun, excitement and
<br /> rock 'n' roll.
<br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized and directed to
<br /> forward a cer~ied copy of this Resolution to Jane Scar and tha~ a copy of this Resolution be

<br />spread upon the minutes ofthe meeting.
