RESOLUTION NO. 7 5 0 7 - 0 0 <br /> <br /> BY: Corrigan, FitzGerald, George, <br />Roth, Seelie, Skindell, Smith. <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION calling upon the people of this City to participate in fire <br />prevention activities at home, work and school, and to heed the message: "Fire Drills: <br />The Great Escape!" as the 2000 Fire Prevention Week theme suggests. <br /> WHEREAS, smoke and poisonous gases are the leading causes of death in fires <br />and can kill a person long before the flame will; and <br /> WHEREAS, underestimating the power of fire and the time it takes to escape a <br />home after a fire ignites could cost a life; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, developing a home escape plan and practicing it at least twice a year <br />is critical to escaping a real fire safely; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the 2000 Fire Prevention Week theme - "Fire Drills: The Great <br />Escape? - emphasizes the importance of not only having a home escape plan but <br />practicing it regularly; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the fire service of Lakewood is dedicated to the safety of life and <br /> property from the devastating effects of fire; and <br /> WHEREAS, those members of the fire service are joined by other concerned <br /> citizens of this City, as well as businesses, schools, service clubs and organizations in <br /> their fire-safety efforts; and <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> Section 1. That this Council and the Ma.vor designate and proclaim October 8-14 <br /> as Fire Prevention Week and call upon the people of Lakewood to participate in fire <br /> prevention activities at home, work and school and to heed the message: "Fire Drills: <br /> The Great escape, as the 2000 Fire Prevention Week theme suggests; we further urge <br /> commemoration of the Chicago fire of t871 which killed 300 persons, left 100,000 <br /> homeless, and destroyed more than 17,000 buildings. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized and directed <br /> to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to Chief Lawrence E. Mroz, Station #1, <br /> 14601 Madison Avenue, Lakewood, Ohio, and that a copy of this Resolution be spread <br /> upon the minutes of this meeting. <br /> <br /> President <br /> <br />Clerk <br /> <br />Mayor <br /> <br /> <br />
