RESOLUTION NO. 7547-01 <br /> <br />BY: Corrigan, FitzGerald, Roth, Seelie, <br /> Skindell, Smith. <br /> <br /> ' A KESOLUTION requesting the Ohio General Assembly to permit governmental opt-out <br /> aggregation or community choice for competitive retail natural gas services without placing caps <br /> on the number of consumers who could form buying groups. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, affordably priced natural gas service is essential to the health, safety, and <br /> economic well-being of all Ohioans, including residents of the City of Lakewood; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the 124m Ohio General Assembly is currently considering proposals perm/t <br /> governmental opt-out aggregation for competitive retail natural gas services as part of ll.B. 9; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, if small consumers are going to benefit from natural gas choice, they must <br /> aggregate, that is, form larger purchasing groups to shop for power supply; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, proposals to place caps on the number o£customers who could form buying <br /> pools through their local governments place a significant impediment on the ability o£1arge <br /> municipalities to aggregate and severely limits the number of smaller commun/ties that could <br /> form buying groups, now, therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That this Council supports governmental opt-out aggregation and community <br />choice, which does not limit the number of consumers participating in the buying group, where <br />local governments can purchase a large block of the natural gas supply for residential and <br />commercial consumers as part of ll.B. 9 now being considered by the General Assembly; <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby author/zed and directed to <br />fonvard certified copies of this resolution to Govemor Bob Taft, Senate President Richard Finan, <br />House Speaker Larry Hot~seholder, Representative Bryan Flannery, State Senator D . <br />members of the Ways and Means Com~nittee °fthe Ohio Senate. -,~ rT ,, ,~ an B~dy, <br />J.
