RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />7595-01 <br /> <br />BY:corrigan, FitzGerald, George, Roth, <br /> Seelie, Skindell, Smith. <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION calling upon the citizens of Lakewood to participate in fn'e <br /> prevention activities at home, work and school, and to heed the message: "Cover the <br /> Bases & Strike Out Fire!" as the 2001 Fire Prevention Week theme suggests. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, cooking, heating, and electrical fires represent three of the nation's <br />leading causes of home fires and are collectively responsible for nearly half of all home <br />fires and almost one-third of the associated fire deaths; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, developing a home fire escape plan and practicing it at least twice a <br />year are critical to escaping a fire safely; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, proper installation, testing and maintenance of smoke alarms are part <br />ora thorough home fire escape plan; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the 2001 Fire Prevention Week theme - "Cover the Bases & Strike <br />Out Fire!" - teaches the public how to prevent cooking, heating and electrical fires, and <br />encourages people to develop a home fire escape plan that includes working smoke <br />alarms; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the fire service of Lakewood is dedicated to the safety of life and <br />property from the devastating effects of fire; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, those members of the fire service are joined by Other concerned <br />citizens of this City, as well as businesses, schools, service clubs and organizations in <br />their fire-safety efforts; and <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That this Council and the Mayor designate and proclaim October 7-13 <br />as. Fire Prevention Week and call upon the people of Lakewood to participate in fire <br />prevention activities at home, work and school and to heed the message: "Cover the <br />Bases & Strike Out Fire!" as the 2001 Fire Prevention Week theme suggests; we further <br />urge commemoration of the Chicago fire of 1871 which killed 300 persons, left 100,000 <br />homeless, and destroyed more than 17,000 buildings. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized and directed <br />to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to Chief Lawrence E.
