RESOLUTION NO. 7630-02 <br /> <br />~Y: Corrigan, Dunn, FitzGerald, George, <br /> Roth, Seelie, Skindell. <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION reco~iMng the accomplishments of Garfield <br />Elementary SchoOl in receiving the '~3chool Improvement Incentive Award" from the <br />State of Ohio General Assembly. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Crarfield Elementary School has made steady gains in it's <br />performance on 4* grade reading proficiency tests, increasing the percentage of students <br />passing from 47% in 1996 to 60% in 2001; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Garfield Elementary School Teachers worked with students <br />by providing extra tutoring; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Crarfield teachers secured a gram to purchase software to <br />enable students to work independently to improve their Math and Reading scores; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, eleven languages are spoken by Garfield students including <br />Arab dialects, Albanian, Romanian, Hispanic and Greek; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, 35 of C_mrfield's 300 students attend "English as a Second <br />Language" classes every day with 61 in the program; now, therefore, <br /> <br />OHIO: <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF <br /> <br /> Section 1. That this Council and Mayor commend Garfield Elementary <br />School for their continued progress in fine education for all students. <br /> <br /> Section 2.
