RESOLUTION NO.: 7645-02 <br /> <br />BY: Corrigan, Dun_n, FitzGerald, George <br /> Roth, Seelie, Skindell <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION to acknowledge the week of Sunday, April 7m through Sunday, April <br />14th, 2002, as Days of Remembrance in memory of the victims of the Holocaust, and in honor of <br />the survivors, as well as the rescuers and liberators, and further proclaim that we, as citizens of <br />the City of Lakewood, should strive to overcome intolerance and indifference through learning <br />and remembrance. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the history of the Holocaust offers an oppi)rtunity to reflect on the moral <br />responsibilities of individuals, societies, and governments; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, we the people of the City of Lakewood should always remember the terrible <br />events of the Holocaust and remain vigilant against hatred, persecution, and tyranny; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Days of Remembrance have been set aside for the people of the City of <br />Lakewood to remember the victims of the Holocaust as well as to reflect on the need for respect <br />of all peoples; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to an Act of Congress (Public Law 96-388, October 7, 1980) the <br />United States Holocaust Memorial Council designates the Days of Remembrance of the victims <br />of the Holocaust to be Sunday, April 7m through Sunday, April 14th 2002 including the <br />international Day of Remembrance know as Yom Hashoah, April 9th. <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO; <br /> <br /> Section 1. That this Council and the Mayor recognize April 7th through April 14m as the <br />Days of Remembrance in the City of Lakewood, OH. <br /> <br /> Section 2. That the Clerk of Council is hereby directed to forward a certified copy of this <br />resolution to Mr. Benjamin Meed, Chairman, Days of Remembrance, 100 Raoul Wallenberg <br />Place, SW, Washington, DC 20024-2126 and that'a copy of this resolution be spread upon the <br />minutes of this meeting. <br /> <br /> Section 3. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning <br />and relatifig to the passage of this resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council, <br />and that all such deliberations of this Council and any of its committees that resulted in such <br />formal action, were in meetings open to the public, in compliance with.all legal requirements. <br /> <br />Adopted: <br /> <br />Approved: <br /> <br />PRESIDENT <br /> <br />MAYOR <br /> <br /> <br />
