RESOLUTION NO. 7647-02 BY: Corrigan, Dunn, FitzGerald, George, <br /> Roth, Seelie, Skindell. <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION designating April 1 - April 7, 2002 as National Community <br />Development Week in the Ob/ of Lakewood and recognizing the Community <br />Development Block Grant program and the importance it serves to our community. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this year marks the 28m anniversary of the Community Development <br />Block Grant (CDBG) program and the City of Lakewood is a participant in the CDBG <br />entitlement program, which funds a myriad of social service, economic development, <br />nei~]hborhood revitalization and infrastructure improvement activities in this community; <br />ano <br /> WHEREAS, over this twenty-eight year period, the City of Lakewood has received <br />over $50 million in CDBG funds; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in this City, twenb/-eight years of CDBG funding has resulted in a <br />strong working network of relationships between the federal and local government, <br />residents of targeted neighborhoods, communib/ and non-profit agencies .and <br />organizations which provide services and help make possible our commitment to those <br />ne;ghborhoods; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Lakewood, Ohio has clearly demonstrated the capacity to administer <br />and customize the CDBG program to identify and resolve local concerns; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Community Development Block Grant program'has had a <br />significant impact on our local economy through job creation and retention, physical <br />redevelopment and improved local tax bases; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, thousands of Lakewood citizens have benefited from partidpation in <br />CDBG-funded programs. Now, therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CrTY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> SECTION 1. That this Council and the May. or hereby declare the week of <br />April I - April 7, 2002 to be National Commumty Development Week in the <br />City of Lakewood. <br /> <br /> SECT[ON 2. That the City of Lakewood, during National Community <br />Development Week 2002, hereby gives special thanks and recognition to all partidpants <br />whose hard work and devotion to the neighborhood and their residents help insure the <br />quality and effectiveness of the Community Development Block Grant program. <br /> <br /> SECTION 3. That the ab/of Lakewood hereby petitions the U.S. Congress <br />and Administration to recognize the outstanding work being done locally a.nd nati. on.a!ly <br />by the Community Development Block Grant program and its vital importance to me <br />communib/. <br /> SECT[ON a,. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized and <br />directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to Representative Dennis <br />Kucinich; Senators Michael DeWine and George V. Voinovich; Representative Bryan <br />Flannery; Senator Daniel R. Brady; and Lana .1. Vacha, Director, Communib/Planning <br />and Development Division, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (200 <br />North High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215); and that a copy of this Resolution be spread <br />upon the minutes of the meeting. <br /> <br />SECT/ON 5.
