RESOLUTION: 7753-03 <br /> <br />BY: Corrigan, Dever, Dunn, FitzGerald, <br /> George, Roth, Seelie. <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION to honor Mary Swindell for her seventeen years of outstanding <br />writing and reporting for West Life. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Mary Swindell .started her career with West Life in 1986 with her <br />late husband, Howard Swindell and wrote under her maiden name, Mary Hooper, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Mary earned her journalism degree from Western Reserve <br />University, now known as Case Western Reserve University, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Mary has won numerous journalism awards over the years, <br />including Best Original Column and Best Feature Stories at the Osman Hooper Awards <br />(no relation) for the Ohio Newspaper Association, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, aside from covering Lakewood news and events, Mary Swindell has <br />been writing the Police Beats column, which has been one of the most, if the the most <br />popular feature in West Life for many years, and in January 2003 Mary was named <br />Assistant Editor, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Mary Swindell has been a very involved citizen of Lakewood both <br />through Church and community volunteering, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Mary Swindell was recently wed tq Bryce Nelson of Kiowa County, <br />Kansas and sadly for us, she will be moving there this summer, and <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br /> Section 1. That this City Council and Mayor of Lakewood hereby extend to Mary <br />Swindell our best wishes and thanks for her thorough, informative and entertaining <br />coverage of Lakewood news and events. <br /> <br /> Section 2.
