Madigan, Seelie. <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION to establish the Lakewood GoGreen Awards and to <br />designate Mayas annual GoGreen Month in Lakewood, Ohio <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on April 7th, 2003 Lakewood City Council unanimously adopted <br />a green building policy, making Lakewood the first city in the State of Ohio to adopt <br />a comprehensive green building policy; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Lakewood Green Building Policy promotes <br />sustainable develoþment strategies consistent with the enormous opportunities to <br />effect change in the way buildings are designed, built, and maintained to ensure <br />that Lakewood is an environmentally responsible, profitable, and healthy place to <br />live and work; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Lakewood GoGreen Awards will honor residents and <br />businesses that adopt green building principles, promote sustainabi1ity, and <br />contribute to our community's overall quality of life in an effort to" <br /> <br />· Conserve energy, water, and other natural resources <br />· Strengthen established goals related to increased density, mixed use, and <br />transit"oriented development, storm water and erosion control, brown field <br />redevelopment, and increased bicycle and pedestrian access. <br />· Save the city, building owners, and tenants money tbrough increased <br />operation and maintenance efficiencies, <br />· Improve indoor air quality and the health, well being, and productivity of <br />occupants, <br />· Help reduce public infrastructure costs related to development. <br />· Minimize local ecological degradation (habitat, air, soil, and water) through <br />efficient site and building design, sustainable construction practices, and low <br />impact building materials and operational practices <br />· Keeps money in the local economy and creates new local industries and jobs; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Lakewood Green Committee will administer the Go Green <br />A wards, thereby establishing criteria and the various categories for recognîtion, as <br />well as undertake the responsibility of evaluating nominations ánd selecting the <br />annual GaGreen Awards winners; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, May is annual GoGreen Month in Lakewood, winners of the <br />GoGreen Awards will be recognized at a regularly scheduled meeting of Lakewood <br />City Council each May; now, therefore: <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO' <br /> <br />Section 1. That this Council will establish the Lakewood GaGreen Awards and <br />designate Mayas annual GoGreen Month in Lakewood, Ohio. <br /> <br />Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized to spread a copy <br />of this resolution upon the minutes of this meeting <br /> <br />Section 3.
