<br />RESOLUTION NO <br /> <br />7966-05 <br /> <br />Dever, <br /> <br />HY: Corrigan, Demro, <br />Dunn, ~~tzGerald, Madigan, <br />Selie. <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION to declare Aprill3, 2005 as "Kick Butts Day" in Lakewood Ohio <br /> <br />WHEREAS 4 5 million students between the ages of 12 and 17 smoke cigarettes, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS teens who smoke are 3 times more likely than nonsmokers to use alcohol, 8 <br />times more likely to use marijuana, and 22 times more likely to use cocaine, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS over 600,000 kids in the U S will start smoking this year, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS everyday, 3,000 U S teens start smoking; approximately 1,000 will die ofa <br />smoking-related disease, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS 9 out of 10 smokers report that they started smoking bèfore the age of 18, <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS smoking reduces life expectancy by 7-8 years Tbat means, each cigarette <br />shortens tbe life of the smoker by around 8 minutes, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS second-hand smoke causes more cancer deaths than asbestos, benzene, <br />arsenic, pesticides, hazardous waste sites, industrial chemicals, contaminated sludge, and <br />consumer products combined, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OIDO' <br /> <br />Section 1 Tbat tbe Lakewood City Council is hereby autborizing Aprill3, 2005 as "Kick <br />Butts Day II <br /> <br />Section 2 It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning <br />and relating to the passage of this resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council, <br />and tbat all soch deliberation of Council and of any of its committees that resulted in such formal <br />action were in. meetings op'en to the public in compliance with a111egaI requirements <br /> <br />Adopted¿t¡'ÁA;Õ }-JjeJdÝ 7~· ~ <br />PresIdent <br /> <br />Approved: ~¿.ý.~. :)Ofi''''''' <br /> <br />
