<br />Resolution No. <br /> <br />8033~05 <br /> <br />By: Corrigan, Demro, Dever, Dunn, <br />FitzGerald, Madigan, Seelie. <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION requesting that the Social Security Administration retain its local <br />office at the Lakewood Center West Building located at 14650 Detroit Avenue; <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Lakewood is home to over 12,000 residents sixty years or <br />older; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Lakewood is home to densely populated senior housing <br />including the fixed income developments of the Westerly, and Southwesterly but also the <br />assisted living cooter called the Northwesterly all located within walking distance of the current <br />Social Security Administration Office; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the current Social Security Administration Office is centrally located <br />providing easy access to public transportation and Northeast Ohio's highway system; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the proposed area for the move is sparsely populated, not centrally located <br />aud difficult to be served by pubJic transportation; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Executive Order 12072 requires that the Federal Govemment "give first <br />consideration to a centralized community business area" and the Lakewood Social Security <br />Administration Office meets that requirement; now therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br />SECTION I: That tbe City of L¡lli:ewood does hereby urge Ohio's Congressional <br />Delegation to oppose the United States Social Security Administration's efforts to move <br />its local office from 14650 Detroit Avenue and further take the necessary action to <br />support Representativé Dennis Kucinich <br /> <br />SECTION 2: The Clerk of Council is hereby directed to forward certified copies <br />of this Resolution irinnemately upon passage and approval to the President of the United <br />States, U.S. Social Service Administration Commissioner, and each of the elected <br />Senatórs and Congressmen in the State ofOllio. <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />SECTION 3: It is found and detennined that all fonnal actions of this Council <br />concerning and relating to this Resolution were adopted man open meeting of this <br />Conncil, and that all deJiberations of this Council and of any of its committees that <br />resulted in such fonnal actions were in meetings open to the public in compliance with all <br />legal requirements, including Section 121.22 of the Ohio Revised Code. <br /> <br />SECTION 4: This Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency measure <br />immediately necessary for the preserva,tion of the public peace, health, safety and welfare <br />of said City, and for the further reason so that it may be ú;ansmitted to the government <br />officials mentioned above to make them aware of our concerns over Lakewood's So.cial <br />Security Administration Office, this Resolution shall take effect and be in force <br />immediately rrom and after its passage and approval by the Mayor. <br /> <br />~doPted: fJr:;[~,j. /-Oð )~ <br />. <br /> <br />~k <br /> <br />President <br /> <br />Approved: &cc, if, JtJO <:: <br /> <br />
