<br />Resolution No . <br /> <br />8102-06 <br /> <br />By- Antonio, Butler. Demro, Dever, <br />FitzGerald, Madigan, Seelie. <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION in snpport of the efforts and activities of Safe Kids Greater Cleveland <br />and the American Red Cross Greater Cleveland Chapter to provide "Safe Pools for Safe Kids". <br /> <br />WHEREAS, drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related death <br />among children ages 1 to 14; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, more than half of the drownings among children ages I to 4 are pool- <br />related; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, as many as 20 percent of near-drowning survivors suffer severe, permanent <br />neurological disability; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Safe Kids Greater Cleveland, in partnership with the American Red Cross <br />Greater Cleveland Chapter, will launch a swimming pool, hot tub and spa safety initiative called <br />"Safe Pools for Safe Kids"; and, - <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Safe Kids Week 2006 includes a nationwide public eduçation campaign and <br />the release ofa research report about parents' attitudes and behaviors around drmm;1Îng <br />prevention to assist in the overall mission of Safe Kids Greater Cleveland and the American Red <br />Cross Greater Cleveland Chapter keeping kids safe Now, therefore; <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br /> <br />Section I That this Council and Mayor designate and proclaim May 6 - 13, 2006 as <br />National Safe Kids Week in the City of Lakewood and call upon the citizens of Lakewood to <br />heed the message of Safe Kids Week 2006 to promote a safe pool, hot tub and spa environment <br />by the use of fenceslbarriers, door alarms and drain covers <br /> <br />Section 2 That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized and directed to <br />forward a copy this Resolution to: Sandy DiFranco, Greater Cleveland Chapter of the American <br />Red Cross, 3747 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44115, and a that a copy of this Resolution be <br />spread upon the minutes of this meeting <br /> <br />Section 3 It is found and detennined that all fonnal actions of this Council concerning <br />and relating to the passage of this resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council, <br />and that all such deliberations of this Council and of any of its committees that res1.ilted in such <br />formal action were in meetings open to the PU~bliC i~,omp:;e wi,th ; ,..Ilegal req~irements <br /> <br /> <br />AdoPted~7 I, Ù>ð--6 ,...~ ~ <br />PRESI ENT <br />==t 7. {/~ <br />c~ U <br /> <br />Approved' f7u."d J, r:fnO~ <br /> <br />MA~'/~ <br />
