RESOLUTION NO 8174-07 <br /> <br />FitzGerald, Madigan, Seelie. <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION renaming Madison Park Pool the Mariann Miller Becks Commmfity <br />Pool <br /> <br /> WHEREAS Mariann Miller Becks, a graduate of Lakewood High School, Class of 1944 <br />and Lakewood's first Swimming pool guard, tfired in 1964; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, because of exemplary service and enthusiasm for teaching, Mar/ann was <br />asked to develop and manage the swin:aning instruction programs for the Recreation Department, <br />malting water safety and physical fitness a value for Lakewood families, a position she held until <br />2002; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Marimm served as the "L-Room Director" fi-om 1973 until 2003, sharing her <br />kn0wiedge and Warmth with thousands of Lakewood teens and their families; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, throughout her years With the Recreation Department Mariarm oversaw <br />thousands of Lakewood's youth swimming lessons and supervised hunth'eds of instructors, most <br />of whom were Lakewood High School stndents hired for their first job by Mariann; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in 1983 Marimm and Mrs. Myma Pizir, a Lakewood parent of a special <br />needs child~ co-founded Camp-Can-Do The program was held at Madison Park Pool and <br />provided a smmner camp experience focused on swimming for special needs children. Their <br />efforts evolved into the Camp-Can-Do and STOP programs which still exist today <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, thousm~ds of Lakewood children and their families participated in <br />swimming lessons, camps and other socml programs that Manarm founded and served ~n more <br />than 30 years of service to our community; and <br /> <br /> THEREFORE, we believe that her legacy has had and will continue to have a lasting <br />impact on Lakewood, we hereby renmne Madison Park Pool the Mariann Miller Becks <br />Coramunity Pool; now, therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO' <br /> <br /> SectiOn 1 That this Council and Mayor wish to rename Madison Pm'k P0ol the Mar/ann <br />Miller Becks Connnunity Pool. <br /> <br /> Section 2.
