<br />RESOLUTION NO. <br /> <br />8240-08 <br /> <br />BY: Antonio, Bullock, Butler, <br />Dever, Powers, Summers. <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION to commend Thomas J. George for his public service as Mayor of the <br />City of Lakewood. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Thomas J. George was elected to the office of Mayor of the City of <br />Lakewood for a term commencing January 1,2004 after having served as Ward 2 Councilman for 16 years, <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, throughout his public service career, Thomas J. George, was a vigorous <br />supporter of workers rights evidenced by his long list of sponsored and co-sponsored legislation including <br />the MacBride Principles, the Prevailing Wage Ordinance, innumerable resolutions in support of strikers <br />such as the men and women at Cargill and CEI, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the years under his leadership are distinguished in that his Administration <br />initiated the successful transition to in-house collections of the City's income taxes saving the City nearly a <br />million dollars, the extensive city school buildings project, the Lakewood Public Library expansion, the <br />renovation of the Lake";ood YMCA and a host of private investment expansions, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Thomas J. George is one of Lakewood's native sons, attending Franklin <br />Elementary School, Horace Mann Jr. High, and Lakewood High School where he ran track, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Thomas J. George received many cheers over the years as a Lakewood <br />public figure but often lead the cheers for the people and events that made Lakewood shine sponsoring a <br />steady stream of resolutions for Lakewood's school athletic achievements, for Special Olympic <br />participants, also dedicating Jimmy Foxx Field, the Lawther Center, and Sinagra Park, commending <br />renowned cartoonist Art Sansom, and commemorating Lakewood's vital role in the Underground Railroad, <br />and <br /> <br />r <br />L <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Thomas J. George enjoys a reputation for resilience in his unique ability to <br />forget petty conflicts endemic to a long-lasting political career opting instead for affability, which has <br />earned him the respect of colleagues and a throng of long-lasting friends; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO; <br /> <br />Section I. That this Council extends to Thomas J. George, its appreciation and the <br />appreciation of all of the citizens of this community for his years of distinguished public service and <br />further wish him, his wife Jane, son Tim and daughter Meghan years of success, health and happiness. <br /> <br />Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and is hereby authorized and directed to forward <br />a certified copy of this resolution to Thomas J.
