RESOLUTION NO. 8265-08 By. Antonio, Bullock, Butler, Dever, <br />Madigan, Pow~s,Summers. <br />A RESOLUTION to proclaim the week of June 16, 2008 as Dignity of Human Rights Pride Week <br />and congratulating the Cleveland Pride Committee on their 20 year anniversary thereby <br />recognizing the LGBT community for its many and varied contributions that have enriched our <br />civic life and aided in creating a more accepting and diverse society and community. <br />WHEREAS, Lakewood as a community values human rights above all and respects the dignity <br />and worth of each individual; and <br />WHEREAS, the last weekend in June, 2008 marks the 38r' anniversary of the Stonewall <br />Rebellion in New York City's Greenwich Village. The Stonewall Rebellion is commonly <br />regarded as the advent of the modern .civil rights movement for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, <br />transgender (LGBT) community and contributes to the universal recognition of civil and human <br />rights for all and this year marks the 20 year anniversary of the Greater Cleveland Pride <br />Celebration; and <br />WHEREAS, visibility and strength in diversity is critical to secure equal rights for all Americans; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the Lakewood City Council is committed to equal rights for all Americans and <br />strongly opposes discrimination in any form based on sexual identity, sexual orientation, race, <br />religion, gender, physical ability, national origin or age; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Lakewood is pleased and honored to celebrate the week of June 16, 2008 <br />with the GLBT community of Lakewood and the Pride Committee of Greater Cleveland. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br />Section 1. That the Lakewood City Council, proclaims the week of June16, 2008 as <br />"Dignity of Human Rights and Pride Week" in Lakewood and is proud and honored to recognize <br />Lakewood's LGBT Pride community. Best Wishes for an enjoyable celebration. <br />Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby authorized and directed, to <br />Spread upon the minutes of this meeting, a copy of this Resolution. <br />Section 3.
