RESOLUTION NO. 8404-10 BY: Antonio, Bullock, Butler, Madigan, <br />Powers, Smith, Summers. <br />A RESOLUTION commending Father Jerome J. Duke for his life-long commitment to <br />Saints Cyril and Methodius and the Lakewood Community. <br />WHEREAS, Father Jerome Duke was ordained to the priesthood May 25, 1968, and <br />immediately assigned to Saints Cyril and Methodius Church serving until 1970, assigned to East <br />Cleveland form 1970 to 1977 and then returned home to Lakewood in 1977 where he remained until the <br />present day, and <br />WHEREAS,. Father Duke strode into the challenging pastoral job at Saints Cyril & <br />Methodius decked out in cowboy hat and boots like...well, like "The Duke" himself--John Wayne, and <br />`fin c/ ,Z <br />WHEREAS, this always approachable teve pious priest wore his heart like a badge <br />made of gold--not tin-- and the Slavic people in the Parish neighborhood, loved him for it as one of their <br />own who loved tradition and good food, and <br />WHEREAS, for 40 years his gentle hand offered communion, baptized babies and <br />blessed the sick and dying, and <br />WHEREAS, he never .lost sight of his role to serve all of God's children--regardless <br />of faith, background, social status ororigin, and <br />WHEREAS, all the citizens of Lakewood have been the beneficiary of his commitment <br />to follow the lessons of the Scriptures to help all people in need, and <br />WHEREAS, .our sense of loss in his departure is overcome with the joy we know he <br />will bring to others in his next parish community; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br />Section 1. That this Council and Mayor extend to Reverend Jerome J. Duke its deepest <br />gratitude and that of all of the citizens of this community for his life-long commitment to Saints Cyril and <br />Methodius and the Lakewood Community. <br />Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and is hereby authorized and duected to forward <br />a certified copy of this Resolution to Reverend Jerome J. Duke at Saints Cyril and Methodius Church, <br />12608 Madison Avenue, and that a copy of this resolution be spread upon the minutes of this meeting. <br />Adopted: ~u-r/~ ~~ ?-0~4 <br />Approved: ~ /`~/~~ <br />---~ . - ~ <br />PRESIDENT <br />
