<br />A RESOLUTION celebrating and supporting Lakewood businesses by calling on all of us to Shop Hometown for the
<br />Holidays this holiday season in coordination with Small Business Saturday, November 26, 2011.
<br />WHEREAS, November 26; 2011, marks a day dedicated to supporting small businesses.. on one of the busiest
<br />shopping weekends of the year, and people across the country are being encouraged to shop small at their favourite local stores,
<br />shops and restaurants to help fuel the economy noting that "When we all shop small, it will be HUGE!, and
<br />WHEREAS, because Lakewood streets are well stocked with stores, delis, boutiques, restaurants, markets, studios and
<br />shops every citizen is on an express aisle to a business of their choosing, and
<br />WHEREAS, we can be thankful this holiday season that our community continues to build on our strengths and
<br />resources creating a vibrant, diverse business community, all just a few strides, a few pedals, a few skateboard spins away, and
<br />WHEREAS, directing our spending habits locally serves the greater purpose of ensuring our economic viability and
<br />stability while providing capital for new businesses, and
<br />WHEREAS, promoting local commerce goes beyond dollars and cents, it creates a social network from which a sense
<br />of community is shared among citizens, and
<br />WHEREAS, why crass the country for snow skis, Chas has them right around the comer; and of course around another
<br />corner Mickey and family have a great meal for you, turn to Tina for unique earrings; Leatherwork of renown quality? talk
<br />with Tonya and Carlos ; anew do? a cat toy? a pound of sugar? say hello to your neighbors, Sarah, Greg, and Jackie, and
<br />WHEREAS, it is only fitting and proper that we paraphrase the famous holiday song in this way; "there's no place like
<br />home for the holidays, cause no matter how far away you shop, when you pine for the sunshine of a friendly gaze, for your
<br />holiday shopping, you can't beat home, sweet home; now, therefore,
<br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO:
<br />Section 1. That this Council and Mayor encourage family, friends and neighbors to create our very own home shopping
<br />network by reaching out to Lakewood businesses this holiday season and shopping locally; shopping Lakewood.
<br />Section 2. That this Council and Mayor further resolve to savor locally our global cuisine, drink in the atmosphere of
<br />neighborhood pubs and bars, enrich our souls with plays and shows, committing our hearts and hard cash to our community this
<br />holiday season.
<br />Section 3. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning and relating to the passage of this
<br />resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council and that all such deliberations of this Council and of any of its
<br />committees that resulted in such formal action were in meetings open to the public in compliance with all legal requirements.
