RESOLUTION NO. 8596-•12 BY: <br />Anderson, Bullock, Juris, Madigan, <br />Nowlin, Powers, Smith. <br />A RESOLUTION commending Lakewood High School cellists Chelsea Polk and <br />Danny Toner for being selected to perform with the National Association for Music <br />Education's All-National Honor Orchestra. <br />WHEREAS, at the Kennedy Performing Arts Center in Washington, D.C. Chelsea <br />Polk and Danny Toner participated in NafMEs Music Education Week which meant they <br />rehearsed with renowned conductors and performed alongside some of the nation's most <br />talented high school musicians, culminating in a performance June 2~}, 2012, and <br />WHEREAS, only 64 high school students earned a chair at this prestigious event <br />and the selection of two from the same section in a school orchestra is exceptional, and <br />WHEREAS, it is only fitting and proper that this Council and Mayor <br />enthusiastically applaud Chelsea and Danny for their achievements and join an ensemble <br />of their dearest supporters who include Chelsea's parents Geoff and Maria, Danny's <br />parents Joe and Lanie and Lakewood High School Orchestra Director Beth Hankins; <br />now; therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO, <br />Section 1. That this Council and Mayor wish to commend Chelsea Polk and <br />Danny Toner for being selected for the National Association for Music Education's All- <br />National Honor Orchestra bringing due honor to themselves, to their family and mentors, <br />and to the entire community as well. <br />Section 2. That we embrace the words of Yo Yo Ma when he states; "...the point <br />of making music is to make people feel something" and as Chelsea and Danny have awed <br />and inspired us with their music and their achievements we hope they continue to <br />captivate an ever expanding audience in their future endeavors. <br />Section 3. That the Clerk of Council be and is hereby authorized and directed to <br />forward a copy this Resolution to Chelsea Polk and Danny Toner and that a copy of this <br />resolution be spread upon the minutes of this meeting. <br />Adopted: ~ ~-~, 2e ~-~'` ~-- <br />Approved: !
