RESOLUTION NO. 8613-12 BY: Anderson, Bullock, duris, <br />Madigan, Nowlin, Powers, Smith. <br />A RESOLUTION creating the Lakewood Tree Task Force for the purpose of studying, <br />advising municipal officials and the public, and recommending action items on issues involving <br />public and private trees in the City of Lakewood. <br />WHEREAS, Council identified the issues of preserving matw•e trees and tree planting as <br />a priority for this legislative session; and <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor concurs with Council that tree preservation and reforestation are <br />important concerns in Lakewood; and <br />WHEREAS, this task force will be asked to assess and review available data and poli- <br />cies related to public and private trees in Lakewood; and <br />WHEREAS, the task force will be asked to provide education to municipal officials and <br />private citizens as circumstances warrant on trees in Lakewood, and to provide recommenda- <br />tions to municipal officials for ashort- and long-range planning in this area; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, OHIO: <br />Section 1. That the Lakewood Tree Task force is hereby established for the purpose of <br />studying, advising municipal officials and the public, and recommending action items on issues <br />involving public and private trees in the City of Lakewood. <br />Section 2. The Lakewood Tree Task force shall be composed of five members, three of <br />whom shall be appointed by Council and two of whom shall be appointed by the Mayor. The <br />appointees shall have no formal term and may select a chairperson from among them. Council <br />may appoint a representative from among councilmembers to attend task force meetings as a <br />non-voting member. The Director of Public Works or any designee of his or her choosing shall <br />serve as anon-voting member. <br />Section 3. With assistance from the Director of Public Works or his or her designee, the <br />Lakewood Tree Task force shall be afforded an opportunity to hold public meetings, conduct <br />interviews of municipal officials, and inspect all pertinent records held by the City related to <br />trees on a timely basis. <br />Section 4. It is contemplated that the task force shall make report to Council and the <br />Mayor within nine months of its creation. The task force shall be disbanded without further <br />action of Council after 12 months of its creation. <br />
