RESOLUTION NO. 8698 -13 BY: Anderson, Bullock, Juris, Madigan, Nowlin, Powers, Smith. A RESOLUTION commending Monique Smith for her public service as a member of Lakewood City Council. WHEREAS, Monique Smith was elected to the office of Councilmember -at -Large in 2010 and served in that capacity until December 31, 2013, choosing not to seek re- election to that office, and WHEREAS, Monique Smith ably and with distinction served Council and the citizens of Lakewood as a member of the Housing Committee, member and Chair of the Public Safety Committee, member and Chair of the Rules and Ordinances Committee and Chair of the Health and Human Services Committee, and WHEREAS, in each of her Council endeavors, Ms. Smith kept to her convictions while remaining open to other perspectives, stood strong in purpose but spoke from her heart, and WHEREAS, among her many achievements Ms. Smith played an integral role in prioritizing systematic housing inspections for the entire City, worked fiercely to increase communication between the City and its citizens, expanded Lakewood's appeal to families with a focus on park safety, the establishment of the Saturday Farmers Market and the inclusion of same sex benefits for City employees, and WHEREAS, it is only fitting and proper that the outstanding service rendered by Ms. Smith be given public cognizance and recognition; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO Section 1. That this Council and Mayor wish to commend Monique Smith for her dedicated service as Councilmember -at -Large in the City of Lakewood, Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and is hereby authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to Monique Smith and that a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the minutes of the meeting.
