RESOLUTIONNO. 8865 -16 BY: Anderson, Bullock, Litten, Marx, <br />O'Leary, O'Malley. <br />A RESOLUTION designating May as Foster Care Month in Lakewood, Ohio. <br />WHEREAS, Foster Care Month is an opportunity to raise awareness about the <br />challenges of children in the foster care system, and encourage the implementation of policies to <br />improve the lives of children in the foster care system, and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Lakewood follows on National Foster Care Month, established <br />more than 20 years ago to bring foster care issues to the forefront of public consciousness; to <br />highlight the importance of permanency for every child; and to recognize the essential role that <br />foster parents, social workers, and advocates have in the lives of children in foster care <br />throughout the United States; and <br />WHEREAS, all children deserve a safe, loving, and permanent home, and <br />WHEREAS, children of minority races and ethnicities are more likely to stay in the <br />foster care system for longer periods of time and are less likely to be reunited with their <br />biological families, and <br />WHEREAS, the primary goal of the foster care system is to ensure the safety and well- <br />being of children while working to provide a safe, loving, and permanent home for each child; <br />now, therefore: <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br />Section I. That this Council designates May 2016 Foster Care Month in Lakewood, <br />Ohio. <br />Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and is hereby authorized to spread a copy of <br />this resolution upon the minutes of this meeting. <br />Section 3. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning <br />and relating to the passage of this resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council, <br />and that all such deliberation of Council and of any of its committees that resulted in such formal <br />action were in meetings open to the public in compliance with all legal requirements. <br />Adopted: 1 r ,r 2� 2, 1(; <br />Approved: <br />R + ID <br />MAYOR <br />
