RESOLUTION NO. 8890 -16 BY: Anderson, Bullock, Litten, Marx, <br />Nowlin, O'Leary, O'Malley. <br />A RESOLUTION commending Lakewood High School graduate Makorobondo Salukombo for his <br />ascension to Olympic standing as a Marathon competitor in the 2016 Olympics held in Rio de Janeiro representing <br />the Democratic Republic of the Congo. <br />WHEREAS, Mr. Salukumbo was a 2 Time Athlete of the Year at Lakewood High School, is a Cross - <br />country record holder at 15:28, and <br />WHEREAS, he continued his outstanding athleticism in college as a 6 -time All- American at Denison <br />University, remaining a record holder at Denison in Cross- country, 5K (indoor and outdoor), 3K indoor, 1 mile <br />indoor and DMR, and <br />WHEREAS, Mr. Salukumbo's achievements include helping others achieve reach goals; he is the founder <br />and president of Project Kirotshe ( Kirotshe Foundation) where a member of the Kirotshe team, Beatrice <br />Kamuchanga was selected for the 2016 Congo Olympic Team and 53 student athletes received academic <br />scholarships for the 2015 -2016 academic year, and <br />WHEREAS, he is a 2015 Jovial Concept Community Building Award recipient, and a 2012 Davis Projects <br />for Peace recipient, and <br />WHEREAS, the truest meaning of the Olympic games recognizes the importance of diversity by forging the <br />unique spectacle of uniting a myriad of nations to compete in games of speed, strength, endurance and teamwork that <br />makes them thrilling and profound, and <br />WHEREAS, Makorobondo "Dee" Salukombo, a native of Democratic Republic of the Congo, has brought <br />honor to both his country and ours by sharing with all our citizens his multiple talents of athleticism, his brilliance in <br />the classroom, and his humanity through the Davis Projects for Peace and his award winning efforts with <br />Community Building, and <br />WHEREAS, the United States of America and the City of Lakewood have always taken pride in knowing <br />that our strength and honor are dependent on welcoming many cultures and nations that contribute to our greatness, <br />and <br />WHEREAS, some of the bright rays of light that shine on "Dee" for all his success have also graced our city <br />of Lakewood; now, therefore: <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br />Section 1. That it be resolved on this day, Lakewood City Council and Mayor Summers thank Mr. Solukombo for <br />his generous contributions and make it known to "Dee" that no matter where he may go, the door to our schools, the <br />path to our parks, the gate to our track and fields, and the key to our city will always be open to him and the entire <br />Salukombo family. <br />Section 2. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning and relating to the passage of <br />this resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council, in meetings open to the public in compliance with <br />all legal requirements. r--} <br />Adopted: <br />Approved: <br />Mayor <br />
