RESOLUTION NO. 8931 -17 BY: Anderson-i Bullock, Litten, Marx, Nowlin, <br />O'Leary, O'Malley. <br />A RESOLUTION to recognize the service of the Lakewood Police Department and law <br />enforcement officials everywhere during National Police Week 2017, <br />WHEREAS, there are approximately 900,000 law enforcement officers serving in <br />communities across the United States, including the 99 sworn officers of the Lakewood Police <br />Department, and; <br />WHEREAS, under the leadership of Chief Malley, the Lakewood Police Department has <br />demonstrated its commitment to maintaining the highest degree of community safety through <br />proactive community policing, incorporation of the latest technologies, and embrace of the most <br />cutting edge training, and; <br />WHEREAS, in 2016, LPD responded to over 50,000 public safety calls, averaging a <br />response time of 3.21 minutes from the time of dispatch for priority 1 calls, and; <br />WHEREAS, as a result of these efforts the City has experienced a 42% decrease in <br />violent crimes, a 14% decrease in burglaries, a 45% decrease in auto thefts, and 45% decrease in <br />robberies since 2007. Now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO <br />Section 1. That this Council and Mayor hereby recognize May 14th -20th 2017 as National <br />Police Week in Lakewood by extending appreciation to the Lakewood Police Department and <br />peace officers across the nation for their services and sacrifices in the interest of public safety. <br />Section 2. That this Council and Mayor hereby observe May 15th as National Peace <br />Officers Memorial Day, when we pause to remember the more than 20,000 law enforcement <br />officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty over the course of history, including 143 <br />officers in 2016. <br />Section 3. That the Clerk of Council is hereby authorized and directed to forward a <br />certified copy of this Resolution to the Division of Police and the Fraternal Order of Police and <br />that a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the minutes of the meeting. <br />Section 4. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning <br />and relating to the passage of this resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council, <br />and that all such deliberations of this Council and any of its committees that resulted in such <br />formal action, were in meetings open to the public, in c01n1pl*nce with all legal requirements. <br />Adopted: �d <br />CLERK <br />Approved: 1 U 2 t 1 <br />MAYOR <br />
