RESOLUTION NO. 9056 -19 <br />C <br />Anderson Bullock, George, Litten, <br />01 t}ar,<p0'Malley, Rader <br />A RESOLUTION to recognize and thank Peter and Michael Schmidt and the Schmidt <br />family for their quality service to the Lakewood community through their Marathon Gas station <br />and auto repair business on Lake Avenue. <br />WHEREAS, Tom Schmidt, a Cathedral Latin graduate, first started working at the <br />business in 1944, after his father, a chauffeur at St. Augustine Academy (now Lakewood <br />Catholic Academy), suggested he apply. He then came to own it in the mid -1950s and ran it for <br />the better part of 50 years with the help of his sons Michael and Peter; and <br />WHEREAS, this business would also serve as a place where Tom would meet Shirley <br />Bagley, his future wife and mother to their four children, Richard, Sharon, Peter, and Michael. <br />The Bagley family happened to live next door to the station and would take their cars there to get <br />them repaired; and <br />WHEREAS, the family also oversaw the reconfiguration of the property in 1971. The <br />station was built in 1922 and pre -dated the homes that currently surround the property. Shell Gas <br />Company, the franchiser at the time, worked with the Schmidts to blend the property with the <br />unique architecture of Lake Avenue; now, therefore <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, OHIO: <br />Section 1. That this Council and Administration does hereby thank Misters Tom, Peter, <br />and Michael Schmidt and the Schmidt family for the length and quality of their service to the <br />Lakewood community for the past 65 years. <br />Section 2. That this Council and Administration does hereby express its condolences to <br />the family regarding the loss of Michael Schmidt, a gifted mechanic who passed too soon at the <br />age of 50 in August of 2018. <br />Section 3. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning <br />and relating to the passage of this resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council, <br />and that all such deliberations of this Council and any of its committees that resulted in such <br />formal action, were in meetings open to the public, in compliance with all legal requirements. <br />Adopted:i <br />Approved: t f L_ If <br />MAYOR C19crl"e <br />
