Litten, Neff, O'Malley, Rader, Shachner RESOLUTION NO. 2020-08 BY: ( A RESOLUTION to support the proposed extension of the proposed Cuyahoga County Health & Human Services tax levy (Issue 33) to ensure that our community's most vulnerable populations continue to receive critical services and to invest in new efforts to benefit these populations. WHEREAS, Cuyahoga County has placed on the March 17, 2020 Primary Election ballot a 4.7 mill Health & Human Services (HHS) levy that would replace the County's current 3.9-mill levy; and, WHEREAS, every year, more than 400,000 people from more than 200,000 families access Cuyahoga County's HHS system; and, WHEREAS, Cuyahoga County's HHS system provides services to children at risk of abuse and neglect, people with mental illness or an addiction, people with serious health issues, victims of crime, seniors and people with disabilities; and, WHEREAS, demand for Health & Human Services in the County has grown as a result of increasing poverty, addiction, changing demographics, and inadequate state and federal funding; and, WHERAS, passing this replacement HHS levy will ensure critical services continue and will fund investment in targeted, interconnected areas that will amplify the impact of our health and human services efforts, help reduce long-term needs and costs, and provide us with measurable, accountable results; and, WHEREAS, Cuyahoga County's health and human services levies are practical investments in strengthening the resilience of our economy and community, and in reducing future economic and social costs; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: Section 1. That this Council does hereby endorse the proposed Health & Human Services tax levy (Issue 33) which will be decided by voters in the March 17, 2020 Primary Election. Section 2. That this Council asks the residents of Lakewood tojoin in supporting the passage this important Health & Human Services tax levy to support the wellbeing of our neighbors who depend or may soon depend on these services. Section 3. That this Council does hereby remind the public to register to vote and to check their voter registration by the Feb. 18, 2020 deadline. Voter registration materials are available in the City Council Office at City Hall. Section 4. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning and relating to the passage of this resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council, and that all such deliberations of this Council and any of its committees that resulted in such formal action, were in meetings open to the public, in compliance with all legal requirements.
