Litten, Neff, O'Malley, Rader, Shachner <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2020-08 BY: ( <br />A RESOLUTION to support the proposed extension of the proposed Cuyahoga County Health & Human <br />Services tax levy (Issue 33) to ensure that our community's most vulnerable populations continue to <br />receive critical services and to invest in new efforts to benefit these populations. <br />WHEREAS, Cuyahoga County has placed on the March 17, 2020 Primary Election ballot a 4.7 <br />mill Health & Human Services (HHS) levy that would replace the County's current 3.9-mill levy; and, <br />WHEREAS, every year, more than 400,000 people from more than 200,000 families access <br />Cuyahoga County's HHS system; and, <br />WHEREAS, Cuyahoga County's HHS system provides services to children at risk of abuse and <br />neglect, people with mental illness or an addiction, people with serious health issues, victims of crime, <br />seniors and people with disabilities; and, <br />WHEREAS, demand for Health & Human Services in the County has grown as a result of <br />increasing poverty, addiction, changing demographics, and inadequate state and federal funding; and, <br />WHERAS, passing this replacement HHS levy will ensure critical services continue and will fund <br />investment in targeted, interconnected areas that will amplify the impact of our health and human services <br />efforts, help reduce long-term needs and costs, and provide us with measurable, accountable results; and, <br />WHEREAS, Cuyahoga County's health and human services levies are practical investments in <br />strengthening the resilience of our economy and community, and in reducing future economic and social <br />costs; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br />Section 1. That this Council does hereby endorse the proposed Health & Human Services tax <br />levy (Issue 33) which will be decided by voters in the March 17, 2020 Primary Election. <br />Section 2. That this Council asks the residents of Lakewood tojoin in supporting the passage this <br />important Health & Human Services tax levy to support the wellbeing of our neighbors who depend or <br />may soon depend on these services. <br />Section 3. That this Council does hereby remind the public to register to vote and to check their <br />voter registration by the Feb. 18, 2020 deadline. Voter registration materials are available in the City <br />Council Office at City Hall. <br />Section 4. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning and relating <br />to the passage of this resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council, and that all such <br />deliberations of this Council and any of its committees that resulted in such formal action, were in meetings <br />open to the public, in compliance with all legal requirements. <br />Adopted: 7 <br />Approved: Gl, I (, I �,, <br />( c 1 <br />President <br />��-,�--- <br />Clerk <br />Mayor <br />
