Bullock, Litten, Neff, O'Malley, Rader, Shachner <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2020-09 BY: <br />A RESOLUTION to support the proposed Lakewood City Schools tax levy to ensure that Lakewood <br />students continue to enjoy the current high level of instruction, services, and facilities and to invest in new <br />initiatives to further support students. <br />WHEREAS, the Lakewood City Schools Board of Education has placed on the March 17, 2020 <br />Primary Election ballot a 3.9 mill levy and a 1.0 mill permanent improvement levy to help keep <br />Lakewood City Schools strong; and, <br />WHEREAS, every year, the Lakewood City Schools provide a well-rounded education and an <br />opportunity -rich environment to nurture the next generation of leaders capable of succeeding and leading <br />in an ever -changing, complex and global world; and, <br />WHEREAS, due to inconsistent and declining State funds, and the increasing costs of operations, <br />the District is appealing to voters to make a modest investment to ensure its continued success; and, <br />WHEREAS, in response to the needs of students and families, the District is excited to move <br />forward with new initiatives such as expanding early childhood programs, adding STEM offerings, and <br />providing additional mental health services, which require this investment from taxpayers; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Lakewood City Schools estimate the proposed tax levy will cost Lakewood <br />taxpayers less than $2 per month per $100,000 of property value; and, <br />WHEREAS, Lakewood's Community Vision affirms that Lakewood residents prioritize and <br />value a high -quality K-12 education through excellent schools and support a culture of lifelong learning; <br />now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: <br />Section 1. That this Council does hereby endorse the proposed Lakewood City Schools (Issue <br />28) tax levy which will be decided by voters in the March 17, 2020 Primary Election. <br />Section 2. That this Council asks the residents of Lakewood to join in supporting the passage this <br />important tax levy to help keep our schools strong for the next generation. <br />Section 3. That this Council does hereby remind the public to register to vote and to check their <br />voter registration by the Feb. 18, 2020 deadline. Voter registration materials are available in the City <br />Council Office at City Hall. <br />Section 4.
