Lakewood Alive receives funding under the
Planning & Development line item in the budget. He described the non-profit as, "like an arm of
the City"that helps to administer a number of programs, especially now with COVID assistance
to the community.
Chairman Bullock echoed Director Leininger's assessment of Lakewood Alive's role.
Executive Director Ian Andrews extolled the great partnership between the City and Lakewood
Alive, stating that the two leverage each other daily. Lakewood Alive acts as a go-between with
the City and other organizations such as the County and RTA. He spoke about Lakewood Alive's
mission, vision, team and strategy. He delivered a presentation which is attached here and
summarized below:
Housing Outreach
Ms. Urbanek spoke at length about the Housing Outreach Program, which is an umbrella for
several other programs such as the Pride Fund, the Know Your Home Educational Workshops
and the Toolbox programs. Ms. Urbanek shared highlights from each of these programs.
Ms. Urbanek discussed the demographics of who is served by these programs. For the past two
years, Housing Outreach programs have served over 500 clients annually, a majority of whom
are low-to-moderate income households. A large portion have been elderly and female heads of
household. She provided examples of how these programs have helped clients such as raking
leaves, replacing roofs, and painting, among other projects.
Creating a Vibrant Community
Mr. Andrews & Ms. Urbanek spoke about how in a typical year, Lakewood Alive is known for
its large-scale community events. This year, these events were either cancelled or re-imagined
due to the pandemic. Mr. Andrews & Ms. Urbanek described how specific events were altered
and successful, nonetheless. Drastic reductions in revenue resulted from moving events online.
1
