MINUTES OF THE PUBLIC WORKS & SUSTAINABILITY COMMITTEE <br /> July 27, 2021 <br /> Auditorium <br /> Present: Councilmembers Rader, Bullock, Shachner <br /> Also Present: Mayor George, Councilmembers Neff& Litten, Public Works Director Ducu, <br /> President O'Malley (6:40 p.m.) Lakewood City School District School Board President Betsy <br /> Shaughnessy, Law Director Corrigan, Chief of Staff John Storey, Assistant Superintendent <br /> Christine Palumbo, Deputy Clerk Lascu, Clerk Bach taking minutes, 20 members of public <br /> Call to order: 6:01 p.m. <br /> Approval of the minutes of the joint meeting of the Finance Committee and Public <br /> Works & Sustainability Committee held July 19, 2021. <br /> Motion made and seconded to approve the minutes from the joint meeting of the Finance <br /> Committee and Public Works & Sustainability Committee held July 19, 2021. <br /> All members voted in favor. Motion passed. Minutes approved. <br /> Communication from Councilmembers Bullock &Litten regarding duties for <br /> recreation activities and maintenance of facilities to be formalized and improved. <br /> (Referred to PWS 6/7/21) <br /> RESOLUTION 2021-23 -A RESOLUTION to take effect immediately provided it <br /> receives the affirmative vote of at least two thirds of the members of Council, or <br /> otherwise to take effect and be in force at the earliest period allowed by law, <br /> authorizing the Mayor to enter into a memorandum of understanding with the <br /> Superintendent of the Lakewood City Schools regarding the division of duties and <br /> responsibilities for the operation and maintenance of recreation fields and facilities. <br /> (Referred to PWS 6/7/21) <br /> Councilmembers and committee members made opening remarks. Councilmember Bullock <br /> remarked that the City should define success with input from the people on the frontlines. He <br /> encouraged everyone to work together without blame to improve the condition of the fields <br /> quickly. <br /> Councilmember Litten remarked that the City and the Schools should work together to solidify <br /> processes so that they don't become problems again. He reported that he has been in several <br /> meetings to formulate a MOU between the City and the Schools and that the meetings have been <br /> productive. He reported that the City and Schools will continue to meet weekly until the MOU is <br /> finalized and that work is headed in the right direction. <br /> 1 <br />
