Baker, Bullock, Kepple, Litten,
RESOLUTION NO. 2022-12 BY: Rader, Shachner
A RESOLUTION to commend Daniel J. O'Malley for his exemplary public service as a member
of Lakewood City Council.
WHEREAS, in November 2015, as the result of many years of civic engagement and an
effective grassroots campaign, Daniel J. O'Malley was elected by the people of Ward 4 to serve
as their representative on Lakewood City Council; and,
WHEREAS, in 2020 and 2022, Mr. O'Malley was unanimously elected by his colleagues
to the position of Council President, where circumstances required him to navigate the
continuation of city governance through a historic global pandemic; and,
WI -AREAS, as Executive Secretary of the North Shore Federation of Labor, Mr.
O'Malley brought his expertise as a labor leader to City Hall, where he introduced and supported
policies that promoted fair pay, benefits and bargaining for city workers -such as raising the Fair
Employment Wage to $15 per hour, advocating for hazard pay for essential workers, and
modernizing outdated employee pay and benefit offerings; and,
WHEREAS, during Mr. O'Malley's career on Council, he developed a reputation for his
responsive, hands-on constituent advocacy for the diverse population of his ward including
renters, for whom he introduced several new legal protections including anti -discrimination
protection in 2016; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. O'Malley is now expected to resign his Ward 4 Council seat to accept
an appointment on the Board of Directors of the Port of Cleveland where he hopes to amplify the
voice of workers and to make a regional impact; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, OHIO:
Section 1. That this Council does hereby commend Daniel J. O'Malley for his dedicated
public service as a member of Lakewood City Council and for his leadership as Council
President.
Section 2. That this Council does hereby wish Dan all the best on his next chapter in
public service as he moves on to share his time and talents with the broader region.
Section 3. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning
and relating to the passage of this resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council,
and that all such deliberations of this Council and any of its committees that resulted in such
formal action, were in meetings open to the public, in compliance with all legal requirements.
