All members voted in favor. Motion passed. Minutes <br /> approved. <br /> ORDINANCE 21-2022 - AN ORDINANCE to take effect immediately provided it <br /> receives the affirmative vote of at least five (5) members of Council, or otherwise to <br /> take effect and be in force after the earliest period allowed by law,to amend Chapter <br /> 505.18, Certain Animals Prohibited, of the Codified Ordinances of the City of <br /> Lakewood for the purpose changing the permit required to have hens in the City of <br /> Lakewood from an annual permit to a triannual permit. <br /> Councilmember Bullock provided background on the backyard hens program, stating that the <br /> issue garnered much attention several years ago and that with the help of Councilmember Marx, <br /> Council developed a successful program that allows hen keeping and maintains positive <br /> neighborhood harmony. He noted that Ord. 21-2022 is a result of the program's many years of <br /> smooth operations in that the administration is recommending a longer period between permit <br /> renewals and inspections as a way to ease administrative burdens. <br /> Director Corrigan explained that the only proposed change to the program is to change the <br /> permit from an annual to a tri-annual permit. He explained that this would benefit resident hen- <br /> keepers who pay for the permit and ease the burden of the city for conducting the inspections. He <br /> explained the different components and requirements to obtain the permit <br /> Officer Bialosky further explained that upon initial application, the applicant is evaluated by the <br /> tax department, water department, police and building to ensure that they have no outstanding <br /> issues with the city.
