Baker, Bullock, Kepple, Litten, <br />RESOLUTION N0.2022-57 BY (Marx, Rader, Shachner <br />- _ <br />A RESOLUTION to take effect immediately provided it receives the vote of at least two thirds of <br />Y the members of Council, or otherwise to take effect at the earliest period allowed by law, opposing an <br />Anti-LGBTQ+ Resolution before the State Board of Education. <br />WHEREAS, In September 2022, Ohio Board of Education Member Brenden Shea presented an <br />anti-LGBTQ+ resolution for consideration; and <br />WHEREAS, The 'Resolution to Support Parents, Schools, and Districts in Rejecting Harmful, <br />Coercive, and Burdensome Gender Identity Policies" attempts to invalidate Federal Title IX <br />protections in schools for LGBTQ+ youth; and <br />WHEREAS, This resolution directly contradicts Lakewood City Schools Board of Education <br />Policy and City of Lakewood Codified Ordinances Chapter 516 which prohibits discrimination <br />against LGBTQIA+ people in the workplace, housing, public accommodation, and in education, <br />as well as banning the harmful practice of conversion therapy within Lakewood's borders; and, <br />WHEREAS, This resolution is also in opposition to Lakewood City Schools' Vision of a <br />Lakewood Graduate, specifically the values of empathy and global awareness and violates the <br />ideals of human kindness and inclusion that are so valued by the Lakewood Community; and <br />WHEREAS, It is essential that our schools remain a safe, inclusive space for our children to <br />grow and learn; and <br />WHEREAS, The State Board of Education Executive Committee will continue the debate on this <br />resolution and two additional amendments; now therefore <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, OHIO: <br />Section 1. That this Council and Administration encourage members of our community to <br />contact the State Board of Education to express their opposition to this harmful resolution. <br />Section 2. That this Council and Administration does hereby recognize LGBTQIA+ students as <br />full and vital members of our community and express our commitment to working to ensure full <br />inclusion, safety, equality, and acceptance of LGBTQIA+ students; and <br />Section 3. That the Clerk of Council is directed to send a copy of this resolution to the State <br />Board of Education, the Governor, and Lakewood's State Senator and State Representative. <br />Section 4. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning and <br />relating to the passage of this resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council, and <br />that all such deliberations of this Council and any of its committees that resulted in such formal <br />
