WHEREAS, the ACT is a popular standardized test used across the United States and internationally as part of the college admissions process that assesses a test-taker's mastery of English, math, reading, and reasoning; and, WHEREAS, of the more than one million students who take the ACT each year, only .25 percent attain a perfect score of 3 6; and, WHEREAS, in addition to his perfect ACT score, Bode has consistently demonstrated a strong academic performance at Lakewood High School, including earning recognition as an AP honors student due to his outstanding performance on his AP tests; and, WHEREAS, in addition to his academic achievements Bode has excelled as a musician — playing electric bass and violin for the Lakewood High School's chamber and symphony orchestra, as well as the Lakewood Project; and, WHEREAS, throughout his academic career, Bode has displayed a strong work ethic, commitment to academic excellence, and a willingness to take on leadership roles such as serving as concertmaster for the Lakewood Highschool chamber and symphony orchestra; and, WHEREAS, because only a very small percentage of students earn a perfect ACT score, Bode's significant academic achievements and his musical accomplishments reflect highly on him, his family, Lakewood City Schools, and the entire Lakewood community, now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO: Section 1. On behalf of the residents of Lakewood, the Mayor and this Council, we hereby recognize Bode Smith for his perseverance, commitment to academic excellence, and strong work ethic, all of which contributed toward his earning a perfect score on the ACT. Section 2. That this Council does hereby recognize the family, teachers, and community that have encouraged and supported Bode Smith in his studies, musicianship, and character development as an exemplary young person. Section 3. That the Clerk of Council be and is hereby authorized to provide a signed copy of this resolution to Bode Smith and that a copy of this resolution be included in the minutes of this meeting.
