<br />A RESOLUTION to recognize Ward 1 resident Ron Cheung for his outstanding four -
<br />episode run on Jeopardy and for capably representing the City of Lakewood on television's long
<br />running and beloved game show.
<br />WHEREAS, after passing two written exams and acing an interview, Ron Cheung was
<br />selected among a great many applicants to appear on Jeopardy, and,
<br />WHEREAS, after a slow start on the show's December 71h9 2022 episode, Ron came up
<br />from behind to nearly tie for first place at the end of the Double Jeopardy Round, and clinched
<br />the win in the final Jeopardy Round, and,
<br />WHEREAS, returning on December 8th as the one -day Jeopardy Champion, Ron secured
<br />the lead in the Jeopardy Round, but ultimately lost his title, walking away with second place after
<br />a competitive game, and,
<br />WHEREAS, Jeopardy's 2024 Champions Wildcard Tournament presented a new
<br />opportunity for Ron to return to the Jeopardy stage to earn back the title of Jeopardy Champion,
<br />which he achived with his strong performance on the January 22, 2024 episode, and,
<br />WHEREAS, despite demonstrating impressive knowledge of world religions, culture,
<br />linguistics, law, politics, and more, Ron's successful Jeopardy run came to an end during the
<br />show's January 31 St, 2024 episode, and,
<br />WHEREAS, because only a very small percentage of applicants who test and
<br />audition ever make it to the Jeopardy stage, Ron's strong performance and good
<br />sportsmanship on the show reflect highly on him, his family, and the entire Lakewood
<br />community, now therefore, .
<br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, STATE OF OHIO:
<br />Section 1. That Lakewood City Council hereby recognizes Ron Cheung for his
<br />commitment to a life of the mind and strong work ethic, all of which contributed toward his
<br />successful four -episode run on Jeopardy.
<br />Section 2. That Lakewood City Council does hereby'recognize Ron Cheung's family,
<br />friends, neighbors, and colleagues who have all encouraged, supported, and rooted for him from
<br />their living rooms.
<br />Section 3. That the Clerk of Council be and is hereby directed to provide a signed
<br />copy of this resolution to Ron Cheung and his family; Eva Lum, Colin Cheung, and Naomi
<br />Cheung, as a keepsake and reminder of this community's support and enthusiasm for his
<br />pursuit of knowledge and for so capably representing the City of Lakewood on national
<br />television.
